One of the things I’ve appreciated most over the last five years is getting to hear how Will thinks, not just about minerals, but about collecting in general. This was one of those conversations that stuck with me. When you’re new to this world, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of buying beautiful things. Over time I’ve realized that who you buy from can be just as important as what you buy.

That doesn’t mean every dealer who isn’t a collector is doing something wrong. There are a lot of honest, knowledgeable people in this business. I think Will’s point is simply that passion matters. When someone genuinely believes in what they’re selling, it usually changes the conversation. They tend to care more about helping you build a great collection than just making the next sale.

As someone who’s still learning every day, that perspective has changed the way I look at collecting. 💯🙌

I have handled many calcites from India throughout my career, but this one is beyond special.

Something a video could never truly show is the luster. It is unlike any luster I’ve ever seen on a calcite from any locality. 🤯🤯😳

The crystal is also internally flawless. Even though it may not appear that way in the video, it most definitely is. The matrix creates an illusion, but when you hold it in your hand, it simply makes no sense.

I’ve handled many seven-figure gem crystals in my career, and this thing has something completely remarkable going on within it.

I’m blessed to be able to share this jewel. However, only holding it can truly show how special it is.

Eventually, my house on Granada Ave. will be complete in Tucson, and I plan on using it as a museum and a place to gather and mingle during the greatest gem show on Earth. I’m going to turn this estate into a place for education and a place to celebrate the joy of collecting.

This felt like the perfect follow-up to the last video, “You’re Going to Overpay for the Best.” That one was about why the best things are rarely cheap. This one gives a little more perspective on why certain objects can hit numbers that seem crazy at first.

Will brings up a famous painting that sold for an insane amount of money, and I think the perspective is what matters here. It’s not about comparing art and minerals in a way that takes away from either one. It’s about looking at how the world values one-of-a-kind objects when the right people understand what they’re looking at.

Minerals are different because they weren’t created by a person. They were created by nature through time, chance, pressure, and conditions that may never happen the same way again.

I’ve only been in this world for the past five years, and I continue to learn from Will all the time. Trust me, as someone newer to the mineral world, it took me a while to wrap my head around the pricing. At the highest level, price isn’t always easy to explain. But I have learned that it comes down to rarity, beauty, and how badly people want to own something.

Whether it’s a painting or a mineral, the greatest pieces don’t always make sense. But at the highest level, they are what they are... rare, beautiful, and impossible to replace. That’s the bigger point here.
