Nature Created Play

Four Square was THE game of my childhood. Every single day, rain or shine, recess after recess.

Before screens. Before wifi. No batteries, no downloads. Just all of us kids being kids.

Now these games get called "risky," and honestly I don't even know which ones schools still allow. But we were out there building reflexes, resilience, coordination, courage, and the ability to negotiate our own rules with a group of eight year olds. We just didn't know it at the time. That was risky play doing its job.
