Big Fat Glass

It's been a while... i started fusing. That means instead of just cutting glass up, i can now melt it and stick it back together. This is a pair of 10" disks i made. Still deciding if they'll get slumped into dishes or just mounted on displays. Process photos show the 2-layer digital design and the clean cut glass ready for the kiln.

I'm really enjoying making these complex 3d lampshades but soon they're going to be so complex I'll need to make a jig to hold the pieces in place when i do the assembly!

The only part i dislike is having to solder and then clean all those 3d joints. But it's worth it.

This one is 55 pieces with 5 way radial symmetry. Colors are cranberry, purple, cobalt, clear textured and a light blue milky water glass.

My lamp shades are becoming increasingly complex 3-dimensionally. I don't know how to define this shape but it brings me joy.

Mostly white glass with streaky light blue, textured emerald, and linear textured clear.

Another earlier lamp design. Someone said it reminds them of a vintage bowling alley. Not my intention, but whatever works. I like it.

24 pieces of white, red, yellow and teal glass. Shown with a warm bulb and a cool bulb.

I don't think I've shared this one. It was the first lamp i made. I love the clear glass with blue and white spots. It's 24 pieces and has copper patina.

I don't usually do this type of work but my friend's dog passed and i was inspired to make an homage in glass. This is Sparky. He was a very good boy. We hung his real tag from the glass collar.

I took a short break from making pendant lights to do a dog portrait for a friend. Then i couldn't stop myself from going right back to making lights again. My house is getting overtaken by stained glass lampshades.

This one is complex but exhibits 4 way symmetry. The white has a ripply texture, the triangles are a kind of pinkish camel with white swirls. The clear is cut so the texture lines all point toward the center- see closeup. 40 pieces.

It wasn't my original intention but this one feels kind of art deco to me.

Just finished another iteration of this lamp. This might be my favorite so far. I used dark green, blue and green swirled, and vintage textured clear glass that i don't know the name of.

I've been experimenting with original stained glass pendant lamps. I develop the designs using cardboard mockups. This one inspired me to go asymmetrical even though the underlying structure actually exhibits 5 sided symmetry. These photos all show the same light from different angles and with different light sources.
