The Belly Dance Network offers event info, news, costume ideas, and videos on all styles of belly dance.
How do you incorporate hip-hop and robotics into belly dance? Na-il Ankarah Ali and Ashly Grove fused all three of these styles into a performance last month at the Night of 1000 Parties in Tucson. While these dancers come from two different troupes, Lykiska and Fire&Gold, the end result is an amazing production that tells a story and entertains.

Gamal Gomaa (Egyptian percussionist) and Helena Vlahos (famous belly dancer) kick off the Diaspora Showcase Africa event on Saturday, September 26th, at the Sabbar Shrine Center. This Fashion, Music and Dance event also includes Dinner (delicious African cuisine) and fashion collections from several African countries. Magical Magic quartet will play a jazz melody soundtrack during the runway show, and Jamaican reggae vocalist Luckie D will perform in concert-style with the Rockers Uptown. Tickets available at AL’s BARBER SHOP (cash or checks accepted) from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (closed Sunday and Monday) or ZEMAN’s TOO (cash only) from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 - 9:30 p.m. (closed Mondays).

Tummy rolls and flutters are no easy feat! Famous belly dancer Helena Vlahos claims she spent plenty of hours reclined on the floor, propped on her elbows, trying to make her belly muscles behave. Initially, all she got for her effort was drenching sweat. But finally, she made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for an achievement that is fascinating to watch!
