Our new film - as yet untitled-film explores the past, present, and future impact of uranium, coal, and other extractive mining on the Navajo Nation and the communities that call it home.
This story has been told in part before but never like this.
The film -narrated and driven by the experiences of peerless Dine’ filmmaker Cherylee Francis -weaves together her personal testimony, community activism, and urgent political context.
Cherylee’s courage in telling this story honors and echoes the bravery of her ancestors who fiercely resisted occupation by the US Cavalry.
Cherylee's father was a coal miner, and her family lost several members to cancer — a loss that gives this film both its moral weight and its deeply human heart.
Alongside Cherylee’s family's story, the film features members of the Dine’ community who have been directly affected by mining, as well as activists working to restore the land and resist further destruction.
The stakes could not be more timely: a new nuclear arms race, the explosive growth of data centers, and the construction of mini nuclear power plants across the United States are fueling a modern-day uranium rush — one with consequences already being felt on the Navajo Nation.
Deeply felt thanks to Cal Turner who made this film a reality.

Coronado: The New Evidence explores one of the longest-standing archaeological mysteries in the United States–the land route taken by famed explorer Francisco Vázquez de Coronadow who from 1539-1542 was attempting to find vast wealth and fame while traveling north from Mexico.
Through the intrepid and tireless work of Arizona-based archaeologist Dr. Deni Seymour, we now know where Coronado's expedition first crossed into what would later become the continental United States.
Frances Causey Films had exclusive access to the Coronado archaeological site where Dr. Seymour unearthed hundreds of Coronado artifacts including a breathtaking 16th-century "wall gun" that is the oldest firearm found in the continental United States.
This discovery has dire, catastrophic far-reaching implications—not only for US and World history—but for the indigenous people, the Sobaipuri, and their descendants, the Wa:k O'odham, who first encountered Coronado.
The Wa:k O'odham soberly and thoughtfully share their reaction and meaning of this breakthrough discovery by Seymour. Coronado was not exempt from the well-known litany of crimes committed by White Europeans against American Indigenous peoples.
Dr.Seymour also discovered evidence of a Sobaipuri revolt that pre-dates the New Mexico Pueblo Revolt of 1680. The 1541 Sobaipuri rebellion is therefore the first successful Native American revolt in what is now the U.S. This single battle kept White explorers out of Arizona for another 150+ years.
This Coronado site is the first established Spanish colony in the American Southwest and the third ever established in what is now the United States. This villa/town pre-dates San Agustín, Roanoke, and Jamestown!
