RESCUE-ONLY DEADLINE 630PM JUNE MONDAY 22, 2026

Must be pulled by a partnered rescue

Name: Sherekhan
Animal ID: A659765
Age: 8 years
Weight: 80.0 lbs

About: Sherekhan is a handsome, 8-year-old senior brindle mix who is on a Rescue Only deadline due to his complex behavioral history and the highly specific type of home environment required to keep him, his family, and the community safe for the rest of his life. Sherekhan needs a very dedicated, savvy adopter who understands how to manage dogs with high-risk behavioral records.

Sherekhan first arrived at the shelter for a mandatory quarantine after escaping his yard. During this escape, he ran up to a family walking their child and two dogs, attempting to grab their smaller dog.

He returned to PACC as a stray. Upon contacting his previous owner's family, we learned he had been left behind. When contact was finally established with his owner, they officially surrendered him to the shelter. Unfortunately, his previous homes only provided information regarding his behavioral challenges rather than his positive traits.

Sherekhan is also noted for a second bite incident on his record from his re-entry into the shelter in 2026.

Sherekhan needs an adopter who can actively manage his environment to keep him and the community safe. His strict placement requirements include:

Highly Secure Yard & Constant Supervision: Sherekhan has a proven history of escaping. While his previous yard was in disrepair, he is known to both dig under and jump over fencing. His new home must have a highly secure, sturdy fence, and he must be closely monitored every single time he is outdoors.

Best as an Only Dog / Dog-Selective: Due to his high prey drive and selective nature with other animals, Sherekhan would thrive best as the only pet in the home. However, if you have another dog, a formal meet-and-greet at the shelter is mandatory. If the initial introduction goes well, they will still require strict, long-term monitoring in the home to ensure they continue to cohabitate safely. No dog parks or off-leash areas.

Meeting new people can make Sherekhan nervous, and he may bark initially when he is unsure. However, he is very food-motivated! He takes treats beautifully and will quickly learn to trust you once he realizes you are a source of good things.

If you have the secure environment and handling experience Sherekhan needs, please come to PACC immediately to ask to meet with him.

Adoption Process:
All interested parties must meet the dog at PACC before their deadline. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with. Once introductions are complete and if the IP has decided this dog may be a good fit, the process is as follows:

Interested parties:

Must visit PACC before the COB Monday June 22, 2026 deadline to meet with an adoption counselor who will go over notes and introduce you to the dog.
Are encouraged to reach out to a rescue group ASAP (even before coming to PACC), to start the rescue approval process. Please have the rescue contact PACC at [email protected] if approved to pull.

If an IP has not already contacted a rescue, PACC will notify all partnered rescue groups of an interested party and request their assistance. Once you have come to PACC to meet with the dog and determined that you’d like to move forward, your information will be sent to partnered rescue groups. If a rescue group is interested and feels they may be able to pull, they will then reach out to IPs.

Collaboration with Rescue Groups:

Rescue groups are encouraged to reach out to PACC immediately if they will pull this animal into their rescue (and if there are requirements: Interested adoptive party, spay/neuter if not already completed, etc.)
Rescue groups are encouraged to start their adoption process with any interested parties who have contacted them directly and email PACC at [email protected].

Please note that it is ultimately up to the rescue group's discretion to decide whether to proceed with adoption.

HOME MANAGEMENT PLAN:

Bite History:
• Incident Details: minor bite- was at large and ran up to victim who was walking a small dog.

Bite History:
• Incident Details: minor bite- when coming into the shelter he walked up to a staff member and bit them on the upper thigh.

Escape Risk
• Sherekhan has a strong curiosity and may attempt to explore beyond confinement or containment areas.
• Supervision Required: Always supervise outdoor time, including in fenced yards. Ensure gates and doors are securely latched before allowing them outside.
• Preventive Measures: Use a properly fitted martingale collar and standard clip leash during walks. Avoid leaving them unattended in any unsecured area, including open garages, yards or vehicles.
• Longline Use: When spending time outdoors in an enclosed yard, use a longline to give them extra space to explore while keeping them safe and under control. Do NOT use tie outs, leash should be held and maintained by the handler at all times. Should NOT be used in unenclosed or public spaces.

Containment Issues:
• Sherekhan has a known history of escaping enclosed spaces or roaming when unsupervised.
• Escape Method: digging and jumping.
• Supervision and Safety: Keep them on leash until fully acclimated to the home and routine. Do not leave unattended outdoors or in unsecured areas.
• Preventative Measures: Ensure fences are secure and at an appropriate height. Regularly check gates, latches, and weak points for damage or loose areas.
• Longline Use: When spending time outdoors in an enclosed yard, use a longline to give them extra space to explore while keeping them safe and under control. Do NOT use tie-outs; the leash should be held and maintained by the handler at all times. Should NOT be used in unenclosed or public spaces.

Dog Introduction Required: NO small dogs
• Reason: Sherekhan has gotten into altercations with other dogs in the shelter.
• Slow, Structured Introductions: Introductions must be gradual and carefully managed in neutral territory. Monitor all body language closely and end sessions on a positive note.
• Muzzle Training: It is recommended to condition Sherekhan to a comfortable basket muzzle before introductions. This provides safety and allows for positive experiences during early meetings.
• No Dog Parks: Sherehan should not attend dog parks or other uncontrolled environments. These settings can overwhelm or trigger negative interactions, making progress more difficult.
• Behaviors could improve with proper management and/or professional training.

Prey Drive:
• Sherekhan may display chasing behaviors or pull toward small animals such as cats, rabbits, or wildlife while on walks. A confident, strong handler is recommended for safe management.
• Prey drive can be instinctual, breed-related, or a learned behavior reinforced by past experiences.
• Training and Management: Use a secure martingale collar or properly fitted harness during walks. Avoid off-leash areas where small animals may be present.

Stranger Danger:
• Initial Reaction: Expect your new dog to be uncomfortable around and with new people, including yourself, until they are comfortable with you; they may bark, snap, or flee.
• Introductions: New people require a slow, controlled introduction. Muzzle training is strongly recommended to ensure safety during any necessary close-range interactions or introductions outside of the immediate family unit.
• Safe Retreat: When guests are expected, Sherekhan must be secured in their crate or in a safe, separate room away from the commotion and entry points of the home.
• Walks: Restrict walks to low-traffic, quiet areas where unexpected encounters with people or dogs are minimal.
• Re-Entry Management: During the first few days to weeks, they may startle, bark, snap or attempt to flee when you return home. To prevent stress or accidental escape, secure them in a crate or quiet room before leaving. This helps make door entries calm and predictable rather than frightening.

EMERGENCY PLACEMENT DEADLINE 630PM FRIDAY JUNE 19, 2026

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION ONLY THROUGH PACC

Name: Mallow
Animal ID: A899741
Age: 2 years
Weight: 57 lbs

About: Mallow is an energetic, high-spirited boy who is currently searching for a dedicated, savvy owner to give him the consistency, safety, and structure he needs to thrive. While Mallow has a lot of potential in the right hands, shelter life has been tough on him, and he has shown signs of decline in his handling while in his kennel.

Mallow arrived at PACC on May 6, 2026, for a bite quarantine. He and two other dogs charged a delivery person on their property, and Mallow was identified as the dog who bit the delivery driver on the hand.

While in the shelter, our behavior team has also noted that Mallow is dog-selective. During a playgroup session, he was involved in a dog altercation where he latched onto another dog, though he was successfully steered away and separated by handlers.

To ensure a safe and successful transition into a forever home, Mallow has the following strict requirements:

—Mallow struggles with "stranger danger" and can be protective or reactive around unfamiliar people. Because of this, he must meet all members of the household at the shelter before heading home.
—Mallow is very particular about his canine friends. If you have another dog, they must come to PACC for a formal meet-and-greet to see if they are a good match. If a dog introduction goes well, Mallow will still need to be closely monitored and safely managed in the home to ensure he and his new housemate continue to get along.
Because of his selective nature and history in playgroup, Mallow is not a candidate for public dog parks or off-leash settings with unknown dogs. Any future introductions to new dogs must be done slowly and properly.
—Mallow is an active, energetic dog. He will do best with an adopter who can provide daily physical and mental enrichment, clear boundaries, and a routine that helps him feel secure.

Mallow is running out of time at the shelter, but in a structured home with an experienced handler who understands his needs, he can truly blossom. If you have the experience and the heart to give Mallow the safe haven he needs, please come to PACC immediately and ask to meet Mallow.

Available for adoption through PACC.
