Meet Hayden and Wyatt 🌟TMC for Children Patient Ambassadors🌟

Mother’s Day 2019 was the beginning of their new reality. While visiting their grandparents, Wyatt began to show symptoms very similar to diabetes; a disease very well understood by their family because his grandma is also affected by diabetes.. After a quick glucose reading, the results did not look normal so they rushed to TMC’s Pediatric Emergency Department.

Their family spent the next few days in the hospital with endocrinologists, diabetes educators, and nurses as they navigated their “new normal." They learned to recognize Wyatt’s symptoms and how to do their best to prevent the highs and lows that come with the disease.

During their stay, TMC had a room filled with video games that Wyatt could visit whenever he wanted and even got to enjoy visits from one of our therapy dogs! " The TMC staff made sure we were as comfortable as possible and helped guide us through the overwhelming amount of information coming our way. We are incredibly grateful for the TMC team that was there for us during one of the most difficult times in our lives," says Hayden and Wyatt's mom.

Just 20 days later, however, the family was back in TMC’s Emergency Department with their four-year-old daughter, Hayden, who also started showing symptoms similar to Wyatt. Thankfully, with family trained to look for diabetes symptoms, they were able to catch it early and make their stay at TMC much shorter.

Diabetes is unpredictable. There are countless variables that make every day different. After Wyatt’s diagnosis, we were connected with Dr. Patel and her wonderful team. They continue to help us navigate our “new normal,” and we are forever grateful to everyone at TMC who has supported our family along the way.

Today, June 8th, we are celebrating the kickoff of our Children's Miracle Network Walmart Campaign! From now until July 5th, you can donate at the register, online, or at self checkout with any purchase made at Walmart or Sam's Club.

We also recently had the opportunity to host our Southern Arizona Walmart teams at TMC's main campus; it was so heartwarming to have over 30 associates join our kickoff to an inspiring month. We 💙 Walmart!
