The wait is finally over!
I was doing my morning read today when I felt like I had to share this with you. This book: Everything You Need to Know: E-Collar Training by: details a really great example of teaching without commands and what can go wrong if leadership is lacking. Not only does he talk about appropriate E-Collar use; but also about dog behavior. Because a huge part of training is learning your dog, their ticks, and their motivations.
I've worked at multiple vet hospital and boarding facilities over the years. I've seen first had a dog come in for behavioral issue, training is recommended; comes back, medications are prescribed; comes back with a bite on the record....and soon after that comes back to be euthanized. Lack of confidence due to lack of leadership is more of a problem than you'd think. At boarding facilities I've seen numerous dogs that can ONLY stay in a run because we literally cannot touch them or look at them. I've broken up fights between siblings because one is being a jerk and the other has finally had it. These situations are out there. And it's better to be prepared and aware than to be scrambling when 💩hits the fan.
I coupled what I've learned in this book with virtual E-collar training from to start building a more rounded foundation for Nigel to thrive instead of dive.
Without leadership and structure Nigel would be becoming a poorly behaved dog with a lot of behavioral issues. And we've all heard about some of his poor choice (escalation to know end, the windshield incident, a general reactivity to other dogs I haven't mastered with him yet). With structure Nigel is able to live a life that most dogs only dream about. It's possible. And we're here to help. Contact , me, , or anyone I've tagged in this post if you're experiencing any of the issues I've described from this section of Larry's book (or other issues!).
Thank you for coming to my morning voice, bed hair TED Talk
PS- watch to the end and you can see Larry surrounded by some of the Irish Wolfhounds that day
(Also how did it take me so long to read so few pages - sorry not sorry 🙃😹🙂)

A time for reflection during this beautiful sunset kayak session
I even made it possible to accommodate 3 people and Nigel 😳🤪
After this gorgeous evening Nigel and I worked on commands using a long leash with just the light of 1000 fireflies to help us see.
Training your dog in all conditions helps them figure it out better when there are more distractions or in a new place. (He did fantastic by the way)
When I was younger - younger than 7 or 8 my dad taught me how to ride a bike without training wheels. He taught me on the middle of the night with only the moon to light my way. I fell more times than I would probably want to admit. Pedaling towards my dads voice over and over again under the moonlight. And you know what; I’ll always remember that and I’ll always know how to ride my bike. Was it just the fact I learned to do it under the deprivation of other senses? Probably not. But that meant it was stronger when some of those senses were inhibited
Use everything at your disposal to make training fun, different, new, exciting, challenging, and easy.
