Every day I scroll through the news to see stories of people being harassed, assaulted, kidnapped, and disappeared by secret police conducting warrantless searches and arrests. People are being randomly stopped and told to produce proof of citizenship. Nearly all are targeted for being the wrong color/race/ethnicity. This is happening in workplaces, in farmers' markets, in elementary schools, in residential neighborhoods.

They tried (and fortunately failed) to go to a Dodgers game. If I asked you to name a country where armed, masked, paramilitary police were checking people's citizenship papers at a sporting event, would your first guess be America? They operate with no oversight or accountability at all

Are we safe yet?

Diversity makes us better humans. It cultivates empathy and understanding. Art, especially, demands it. Without diversity, art can't challenge. It can't provoke. It can't disrupt

It is not a coincidence that the same people behind this assault on our most basic human and civil rights are also co-opting the Kennedy Center and want to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts

Fascism demands submission. Art is rebellion.
