A post shared by our very own Chief Garrett:

Remembering Pearl Harbor, 7 Dec. 1941.
Doris "Dorie" Miller was a Texas born hero at the attack of Pearl Harbor. Petty Officer Miller was a 3rd class cook. He moved the wounded and manned the machine gun that he was not allowed to fire due to his race. He was instrumental in overcoming adversity and was awarded the Navy Cross for breaking the law and assisting in the war efforts.
On this day, let's all give Petty Officer Miller a "HOOYAH".
HOOYAH, Petty Officer Miller! Thank you for your service. You are a hero.
