Unfortunately, we have to say this again: please do not believe everything you read on Facebook.

We received a call today from someone checking on the status of an application they thought they had submitted for one of our properties through Facebook. Unfortunately, they had been communicating with a scammer.

This individual lost $65 in application fees, but it could have been much worse. The scammer was attempting to collect a $500 deposit as well. Thankfully, a family member recognized the warning signs and stopped them before any additional money was sent.

Please use caution when responding to rental listings online. Always verify that you are dealing directly with the property management company or owner before submitting applications, fees, or deposits.

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. When in doubt, contact our office directly to verify any listing or payment request.

Stay safe and help spread the word to protect others from becoming victims of these scams.
