Longmeadow Rescue Ranch

One of our adoptions in the last month was Dandy, a mare who has been spotlighted a few times on our social media pages.

Dandy arrived at Longmeadow in the summer of 2023 alongside another horse after both were rescued with the help of the Humane Society of Missouri's Animal Cruelty Task Force. Frightened and unsure of people, both horses were wary of human touch. While her companion gradually learned to trust, Dandy's journey took much longer, requiring extra patience, time, and understanding. With the help of our incredible groundwork team, Dandy came around and eventually ended up being a star in the groundwork classes on Sundays! She was the perfect example of a horse whose trust was earned, not given. But once that trust was earned, you knew you had a friend for life.

Dandy spent many months at the Ranch waiting for the right family to come along. Then, the perfect opportunity appeared. After Susan's horse lost his longtime companion, she began searching for a new friend. While browsing our website, Dandy caught her eye. Susan and her family made the trip to meet her, and it didn't take long for them to realize Dandy was exactly the horse they had been looking for.

We are so happy this girl found her family. Thank you, Susan, for opening your home and heart to rescue. ❤️

We won't lie: Being a ranch employee is hard work! But knowing your hard work makes a difference in the lives of abused and neglected farm animals makes it all worth it.

As an equine care specialist, you would be responsible for helping feed and water the animals, turning horses out into pastures, cleaning stalls, and providing proper care and attention to Longmeadow's many residents.
