Imani Black grew up on the water and has carried her family’s 200-year waterman legacy into the modern era. From oystering and crabbing to running aquaculture projects and founding Minorities in Aquaculture, she’s helping restore oysters and keep the Bay’s maritime traditions alive.

She’s part of a growing wave of women watermen, from seasoned captains to young stars like 11-year-old Peyton Reiss, proving that dedication and skill — not gender — define a waterman.
