Donna Kutil Ross is a second-generation co-owner, alongside her brother, Jeff, of Scenic Roots.

The IGC, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, sits on Cape Cod, where a swell of second-homeowners hits The Cape around the Fourth of July, feuling an extended season.

As IGCs elsewhere wind down, Scenic Roots sells annuals, hanging baskets, vegetables and herbs through July.

At the Garden Center Conference & Expo this August in Nashville, Donna will share more will share her perspectives and strategies for weathering economic uncertainty and finding success in what you can control in the panel "How Garden Centers Can Navigate Economic Uncertainty."

“We’re just naturally progressing with these wonderful opportunities, basically waiting people out and picking it up as it comes,” Donna says. “I tell people that's growing your business organically. I know that sounds cliche, but it's just the natural progression of staying in business that long.”
