We are excited to welcome Lewis Summers to the SOMOS team as a Master Electrician.

Lewis brings more than 35 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience across instrumentation, electrical, planning, training, and team leadership.

His career has given him a deep understanding of how to design systems that are safe, maintainable, and built to last. At SOMOS, he looks forward to helping bridge field expertise with engineering design so the people maintaining these systems can do their work safely and efficiently.

Outside of work, Lewis enjoys gardening, home improvement projects, camping, hiking with his wife and dogs, and staying current with new developments in the maintenance field.

At SOMOS, one of the ways we live our mission is by investing in the next generation and creating opportunities for future engineers to learn, grow, and experience a people-first approach to this profession.

That is why we are excited to welcome Braden Smith to SOMOS as a summer intern!

Braden is currently studying electrical engineering at Washington State University, where he will be a junior next academic year. His interest in the field was inspired by a family legacy in electricity and instrumentation. Both of his grandfathers worked as electricians, and his dad has spent more than 20 years in instrumentation.

As he joins SOMOS, Braden is most excited to be part of a company that treats people like family. Starting in a new field can feel intimidating, and we are grateful that Braden already feels welcomed, supported, and respected.

Outside of work, Braden enjoys his church community, sports, video games, and time with friends, family, his dog Dililah, and his fiancé. His family also enjoys snowmobiling in the winter and camping, boating, and wake surfing in the summer.

Last week at SOMOS, we had an uncomfortable but important conversation.

We realized we were holding our team accountable to expectations we had never clearly communicated.
Invisible standards.

We assumed they knew what “winning” with us meant. They didn’t — because we never fully defined it.

So we changed that.

We walked through an exercise:
How do you win with me? How do you lose with me?

Not about numbers.
Not about budgets.
Not about timelines.

About character.
Trust.
Integrity.
Ownership.

It was honest. It was vulnerable. It brought alignment.

You can’t expect people to meet standards they’ve never been shown.

If you lead a team, try it.

Clarity might change everything.

A reflection as a business owner:

One of the biggest myths about owning a business is that it owns you.

More hours.
More stress.
Less life.

Recently, while recovering from an injury, I found myself in the pool during the workday — choosing healing without panic or guilt.

But it wasn’t just about that one moment.

There are mornings when I walk my kids to school on a regular weekday.
There are afternoons when I have lunch at home with my wife.
And the business is still running.

Those moments have changed something for me.

It reminded me why we started SOMOS in the first place:
to build something that creates opportunity, not exhaustion.

A business can be a place where people thrive.
Where time is honored.
Where success isn’t just financial — it’s human.

Maybe the goal isn’t to escape work.
Maybe it’s to design life with intention.

Hace poco, durante mi recuperación por una lesión, estaba en la piscina en pleno día laboral — eligiendo sanar sin culpa ni ansiedad.

Pero no se trataba solo de ese momento.
