Strength in Every Smile. Creating awareness, courage and support for those affected by Cleft Palate

July is Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness Month šŸ’›

One of our very first questions after Grace’s diagnosis was, ā€œWhat caused her cleft?ā€ The truth is, there isn’t one answer.

While we understand how clefts form, the reason why can be different for every child. Many families may never have a clear answer, and that is okay.

After months of testing and incredible care from our team at Randall Children’s Hospital, we learned that Grace has a rare genetic condition called Culler-Jones syndrome, affecting fewer than 1 in 1,000,000 people worldwide. We learned this is what caused Grace’s cleft + some extras 😜

Our Gracie girl was born with a cleft lip and palate, 12 fingers, hypopituitarism, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, hypoglycemia, and developmental delays. Every part of her story is connected, and every part has helped shape the remarkable little girl she is today.

Recently, through The Amazing Grace Project, we connected with another family in Wales who shares this diagnosis. They had been searching for years for a family who’s child also had Culler-Jones. This was a HUGE reminder about the importance of sharing Grace’s story.

This month, we celebrate every cleft and craniofacial journey and we share Grace’s story in hopes that another family feels a little less alone.

Because sometimes, one in a million finds another one in a million. šŸ’—āœØ

It’s Cleft Awareness Week šŸ’›

There is so much to share and educate around when it comes to cleft, and our mission is to continue to share those stories and facts. But this week, more than anything, I hope this message reaches a parent who may be new to their child’s cleft journey.

Before Grace was born, we constantly heard, ā€œThese kids are so resilient.ā€ And luckily, all those people were spot on.

Cleft is so much more than a cosmetic difference, and every child’s journey is unique. But the strength, courage, and resilience these children carry is remarkable. Some days the appointments may feel endless and the results may feel bleak, but there is hope and there is light at the end of the tunnel for these little warriors. Grace continues to shine so brightly despite every obstacle she’s faced, and we are endlessly proud of her continued growth and courage.

If you see this, we hope you follow along or visit theamazinggraceproject.com as we continue spreading the message that there is Strength in Every Smile šŸ’›

We are incredibly honored to share that $41,681.33 will be donated to Alliance for Smiles through The Amazing Grace Project following our inaugural Scramble for Smiles tournament.

Our hope for Grace is that her differences will become her superpower, today she is providing 41 children with the smiles they deserve because of your support. Every sponsorship, foursome, donation, silent auction bid, volunteer hour, and shared moment helped create a lasting impact for children born with cleft conditions in underserved communities.

We truly could not have done this without each and every one of you. Thank you for showing up, giving generously, and helping us spread the message that there is truly Strength in Every Smile.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making our inaugural tournament such an incredible success. We are already looking forward to next year and will share next year's date as soon as we can! šŸ’›
