Fix Me - A prayer to God. 1. This is the actual piece of paper I wrote on in the booth, and the first draft of lyrics that I scribbled down as I tried to keep up with the words that were pouring out of my mouth on the mic.

2. When I first sat on the mic stool that so many of the greats had sat on before me, I was depressed, frustrated, exhausted, and homesick. After trying some other ideas and failing miserably I said “f*ck it”. Instead of trying to write a hit song, I closed my eyes and I started to pray to God for help. Thank God, the engineer caught it all. There was no track yet, just bass notes (which I had just argued were too Ballard-y) and I just spewed my feelings out, line by line. I had no idea I was actually writing a usable song until I opened my eyes a few lines in and saw the guys jumping around in the mixing room with their thumbs up, a song that would later go to number 1 in three countries!

3. I don’t have a video of the moment I blurted this song out, because it’s only afterwards that we think to record ourselves - but here is a clip of me recording the main tag line about ten mins later. And yes, by then I had clicked into performer mode because that’s how we do 😁

That day I learned a big lesson. For years I had tried so hard to get it right and it was only giving up and asking God to help me, that I finally succeeded. This has been a theme in my life. And every time I ask, He answers.
