CORRECTION: A quote I posted recently was wrongly attributed to Patrick Henry — the line about America being founded “not by religionists, but by Christians.” That statement did not come from Henry. It originated in a 1956 magazine article about his faith, and got mistakenly passed off as his own words over the years. I should have verified it before posting it, and I want to set the record straight.
Here is what Patrick Henry actually wrote — in his own will:
“This is all the inheritance I can give to my dear family. The religion of Christ can give them one which will make them rich indeed.”
That’s the real Patrick Henry. A man who valued the gospel above wealth, land, or legacy. Truth matters.
