STOP Inc.

STOP Inc. is a designated Community Action Agency that since 1965, has worked to transform individuals, families and communities in Eastern Virginia through collaboration, cooperation and partnerships. Our MOTTO, “Supporting Transformational Opportunities for People”, is indicative of our MISSION which states, “with the assistance of community partners to reduce the effects of poverty by assisting low wage and economically disadvantaged residents of Eastern Virginia achieve self-sufficiency through programs and service initiatives which encompass education, employment, housing and health for the improvement of their quality of life.”

Through our CORE VALUES and PRINCIPLES of coordination, competence, dignity, diversity, flexibility, immediacy, integrity, leadership, optimism and respect, STOP’s VISION “is to be one of the premier Community Action Programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia entrusted to provide quality programs and services that have a transformational impact on low and moderate income residents in our community.” We embody and will achieve this vision by implementing the COMMUNITY ACTION PROMISE which “changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.”

Our work is guided and completed by the concepts and principles of the Federal government’s RESULTS ORIENTED MANAGEMENT and ACCOUNTABILITY (ROMA) System. ROMA is performance based and designed to preserve the anti-poverty focus of community action. It provides a framework for continuous growth and improvement among more than 1,000 nationwide community action agencies and a basis for leadership and assistance towards those ends.

STOP Inc. is an EVIDENCE-BASED Agency in both practice and evaluation and is accredited through the COUNCIL ON ACCREDITATION (COA). COA, an international accrediting organization, sets the standards which are reliable indicators of quality as recognized by the Federal government. This accreditation attests to STOP’s commitment, dedication and foresight for being an Agency which provides credibility, accountability and transparency through the provision of fiscally-sound, quality service delivery.
