Regent University’s liberal arts curriculum is one of only 19 in the nation to earn a grade of “A” from the American Council of Trustees and Alumni’s (ACTA) 2026 What Will They Learn?® report, placing it in the top 1% of America’s most comprehensive core programs.

In a review of more than 1,100 schools with a stated liberal arts mission, the What Will They Learn?® initiative has evaluated public and private colleges based on the strength of their general education requirements since 1995. Given that general education usually comprises one-fourth to one-third of a student’s academic program, the review is designed to guide students in choosing a school with core studies that prepare them for the workforce, informed citizenship, and familiarity with America’s cultural and intellectual inheritance.

What Will They Learn?® grades institutions on an “A+” through “F” scale based on whether they require all undergraduate students to complete courses in Composition, Literature, Foreign Language, U.S. Government or History, Economics, Mathematics, and Natural Science that meet carefully defined criteria. These seven core subjects are identified by ACTA as “essential to providing students with the knowledge and skills they need for the challenges of career and community in the 21st century,” and institutions must require at least six to earn an “A.”

“To change the world, a Christian leader must first understand the world,” said Josh McMullen, Ph.D., Regent’s Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Studies. “Regent has long held that a well-rounded education sharpens intellect, professional skills, character, and spiritual depth, forming a graduate who thoughtfully engages with society in meaningful ways. Earning an ‘A’ from ACTA places us in rare company, and we’re honored that our core curriculum is being recognized for the breadth and rigor we believe every student deserves. It’s a privilege to offer a liberal arts experience that prepares students not only for careers, but also for lives of purpose and service.”
