Oh you’re not going to the gym today?? Are you a little sore, a little tired? 🤨
➡️ That’s okay!! Sometimes our body and soul needs to rest.
Our culture is so focused on a go-go-go lifestyle, doing more, pushing to be your best. There’s a balance between building consistent habits that support you reaching your goals, and learning when to listen to your body (and soul) and give it time to rest and recover. Magic happens in the stillness!
When I was battling anxiety and depression, working out became ONE of my ways to fight and heal it. I often overtrained and didn’t allow my body the space and time it needed to physically recover because my mind needed so much physical activity to quiet racing thoughts and release the feel-good chemicals. Even though working out is good physically and mentally, that “just push through” attitude can sometimes set us back long term.
What can incorporating rest and recovery into your routine look like?
✨ Moving your body in some way that isn’t an intense workout and is enjoyable - like going for a walk, restorative yoga, maybe even dancing!
✨ Fueling your body with nutritious and whole foods that reduce inflammation
✨ Spending time doing what your soul loves
✨ Writing a gratitude list
✨ Getting outside
✨ Giving yourself permission to simply BE in the present moment
✨ Sleep
Is it hard for you to rest? What are your favorite ways to rest your body and soul?
