Just a reminder: there is no right way to handle the devastating news from today.
During a time where things feel out of control, remember that you have control over your media consumption. Limit your access if you know that social media is increasing your anxiety and/or other mental health symptoms.
You can grieve, process, and be furious.
You can fight, speak out, organize, and network.
Some people can do these thing at the same time and some need to do one of these before the other.
Be gentle with yourself and don’t compare your reactions today to the reactions of other people on social media.
There is no judgment during a collective trauma ❤️

Do you water your plants whether or not they’re blooming? We know in our mind that they need nourishment no matter what, even if they aren’t exactly growing how we think they should be or they haven’t flourished. 🌿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We know that watering is essential and is necessary to make sure they will stay healthy and bloom in the future.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you care for and “water” yourself on days when you’re blooming? 🌱⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On a day where you accomplish something great or you love your outfit- perhaps you exude more confidence and feel good about yourself. Maybe you practice some self talk or hype yourself up for a meeting or a conversation you have been wanting to have.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What about on the day you can’t seem to get into the groove of things. Whether it be internal or external and you just aren’t feeling proud or confident in yourself. 🥀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do hype yourself up on these days? Compliment yourself? Practice self talk? Tell yourself you’re proud of yourself?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Why not?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If we were to only care for and water our plants on the days they’re flourishing and we stopped the moment they began to wilt- they would die. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So why do we withhold this same care from ourselves?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I encourage you to “water” yourself this week- ESPECIALLY on the days you don’t feel you deserve the praise or hype up. Pick something specific you’re grateful for or proud of yourself for (some days it can be simply getting out of bed!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we begin to encourage and love ourselves on our hard days, we can train our brain to filter out the negative narrative so many of us play on repeat during hard times.
