As Ross winds down the weekly shows of I Hear America Singing, he reminds us of his favorite groups. Of course, he starts off with the group that introduced him as well as millions of people all over the world to Folk Music – The Kingston Trio. Also, their good friends the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem who kickstarted the Celtic Renaissance not only in America, but in their native Ireland as well. One of the Trio’s biggest influences was Pete Seeger and the Weavers – as Nick Reynold said “we used to do all of their songs.” Peter, Paul, and Mary was created to challenge the Kingston Trio’s dominance in the field and did so quite well. Thanks to Andy Griffith, the Dillards helped introduce Bluegrass music to millions of TV viewers. Ian and Sylvia introduced traditional Canadian folk songs to a wide American audience as well as songs written by themselves and their good friend Gordon Lightfoot. Denver-based Dakota Blonde continues in the tradition of PP&M, while Adler and Hearne harvest songs from their organic song farm outside Winnsboro, TX.
So join Ross for a tuneful hour either Saturday evening at 7:00 or Sunda night at 9:00
