As we dive into March, we now honor Women as it is officially Women’s History Month. Today, we admire Harriet Beecher Stowe. While living in Cincinnati, Stowe encountered fugitive slaves and the Underground Railroad. Later, she wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin in reaction to recently tightened fugitive slave laws. Harriet shared ideas about the injustices of slavery, pushing back against dominant cultural beliefs about the physical and emotional capacities of black people. Stowe became a leading voice in the anti-slavery movement. Uncle Toms Cabin had a major influence on the way the American public viewed slavery.
