In just a few months, Metals on the Mountain will be here, and we can’t wait for Jenny Reeves' workshop, “Gold on Silver Goes Big: Advanced Techniques in Argentium and Gold!”
Jenny’s class will explore complex fabrication and fusing large pieces in Argentium, while learning to bond Keum-boo and accent gold for silver using a torch instead of a hot plate. Students will learn to create multi-dimensional pieces like cuff bracelets and hollow forms which require more heat and different gold-bonding methods than small work. This class is perfect for students who’ve taken other workshops with Jenny or have prior experience with Argentium and Keum-boo. With silver prices soaring, it’s a great opportunity to make that challenging piece with expert tutelage!

Exciting news! Marne Ryan is joining us at Metalwerx this summer for her master class “Basic to Bodacious: Textured Fused Rings!” From July 22 to July 26, Marne will demonstrate her signature process, developed over 40 years, of how to transform sterling silver into exquisitely captivating textured metal. Students will also get the chance to learn her “productive pyromaniacs,” fusing sterling silver into uniquely patterned one-of-a-kind sheets by layering strips of precious metal next to, and on top of, one another.
Marne Ryan, a recipient of the 1997 Rolex award for excellence in metals, has been exploring and teaching the process of making textures through fire since 1976. She was an Artist in Residence for Pennsylvania and Delaware and a recipient of the Delaware Artist Grant. Her jewelry and vessels have won awards and recognition in the United States, Japan, Europe and Australia. Her work is in the permanent collection of The American Museum of Art and Design in New York City. Marne’s work has been included in Ornament Magazine, Lapidary Journal, Contemporary American Jewelry Design and Fold Forming, as well as many solo, group, gallery, and museum exhibitions and shows. She also produced “Organic Metals,” a six-part video series teaching fusing, jewelry projects and techniques.
