Hot days mean more care needed for community cats. Extra water and shade are key.
Consider putting out water in multiple shady areas and place ice cubes in water dishes or ice packs around or under the dish.
Provide extra shady spaces to lounge in.
Feed more canned food and less dry to increase moisture - under shade. Of course, you have to balance wet food vs dry food with the flies. If you have your cats on the recommended twice a day feeding schedule with the cats coming promptly, flies shouldn’t be an issue. Wet food spoils quicker than dry food so if they’re not on a schedule, wet food doesn’t work.
Try providing ice packs in shady spaces to lay near or on.
Did you know staying hydrated helps cats better regulate their body temperature? Water is critical in both cold and hot weather.
What has worked for your colony?
