⭐Feature Friday Spotlight Anna Terry ⭐

Meet one of our original Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members since the team's founding in 2010! She joined while pursuing a master's in criminal justice, and CERT became her way to stay hands-on in the community.

Anna's favorite role in CERT has been Team Leader. As such, she enjoys helping match volunteers' strengths to the right roles and connecting with the public to get lifesaving information into families' hands.

Beyond CERT, Anna has worked in all areas of IT at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) for the last 25 years. Currently, she is the application manager mainly for student systems: applications, grades, visas, graduation, housing, etc.
Outside of working in IT, Anna has been a building lead for the UCM Building Emergency Safety Team (BEST) which is similar to CERT, an Elks officer, an animal rescue volunteer, a Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteer, and a licensed HAM radio operator.

Her advice to other CERT members is to train in damage assessment and first aid. She's had firsthand experience in using her first aid skills to help in real emergencies while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Also, in her own words, "Be involved as much as you can. Try the courses you think you won't be interested in. You never know what may strike a chord with you."
