🚨 Fed Cut Today… But Mortgage Rates Went UP 🚨
A lot of people assume mortgage rates automatically fall when the Fed cuts rates—but that’s not how it works.
Here’s what really happened today:
The Fed announced a rate cut, but that announcement is usually the least important factor for mortgage rates.
The dot plot (Fed members’ rate forecasts) and Powell’s press conference move markets far more.
Initially, bonds rallied on expectations of more cuts in 2025. But during the press conference, Powell stressed that future cuts aren’t guaranteed—they’ll decide meeting by meeting.
That shift caused bonds to sell off, and lenders issued mid-day changes.
📈 The result: mortgage rates are actually higher this afternoon than they were yesterday—or even this morning.
👉 Fed days often bring volatility, and today was a prime example.

About Me:
I am a long time Wheaton resident married to my high-school sweetheart and a father of 3 wonderful, young children. When I'm not running my kids to and from sports I'm a loan officer with Compass Mortgage in Warrenville, IL.
I have an MBA in Finance from DePual University, and BS in Business Administration from the University of Illinois Champaign - Urbana and I'm a graduate of the University of Illinois Aviation Institute with my commercial pilot's license as well as my flight instructor license.
My goal is to carefully guide you through the entire home loan process so that you feel confident as you make choices about the many options available for your financing strategy. With many years of mortgage experience I am ready to assist you each and every step of the way.
