To be able to collaborate with your local supplier to avoid using trusses on a potential project and convert to conventional framing may have sold this one for us. We gets lots of opportunities to bid projects but don’t always have enough time to get to all. This one caught my eye and I was very unhappy to see trusses were specified. I talked with the owner, architect and to get some input on swapping over. There are mostly all pros in my eyes ( extra square footage on usable living space, controlled quality on product, ability to easily change something being a custom home, craftsmanship of a dying art.) Hopefully a future project for us. Point being to get prices out on projects as well as perform in the field takes a lot of time. To see past just getting numbers out and bettering the product takes even more but at the end of the day I think that’s what’s more craftsman strive for. Side note this roof is just shy of 8,500 sq ft and would be the second biggest stack we’ve worked on.

Pushed through putting a second story over a ranch during this little polar vortex with the boys. We started Monday, stripping the exterior and reventing the furnace through a power vent which took longer than expected. Wasn’t able to get the whole roof off until mid morning Tuesday. End of day Tuesday floor was finished. Wednesday walls were stood soffits worked on existing portions of house, Gables and roof components prepped. Thursday trusses were swung with half of the roof sheeted and most of the pigeon runs built. Today we were able to button up everything on the exterior portion of it minus reframing of the lower windows. Will be ready for roofing Monday. I couldn’t be prouder of the guys I work with Day and day out. They bring a level of professionalism and workmanship to the table that is unmatched. It’s always a pleasure to put a belt on and slam s**t up with you boys. We might not be the fastest or the most precise but we will gladly chase that goal of trying to get there one day.

Rolling on the first of four new homes lined up for the next few months. Resolved some foundation issues and got a good push on this guy the last two weeks. Working with the local lumberyard we were able to swap this truss roof for a conventional frame.(112 - 30’ 14 lvl) which will allow us to create quite a bit more livable spaces. Waiting on the garage foundation is going to make for a fun roof frame in the house.
