I’ve been on a whirlwind Europe trip and this time, unplugging was a priority. When in Paris, I love to wander, only with a neighbor focus in mind each day. We stayed in the Latin Quarter near the Luxemburg garden, only went to 1 museum (the Orsay 💕 on discounted tickets every Thursday night), and only had 1 reservation in the book (mắm from Hanoï - Michelin Bib Gourmand and with egg rolls that tasted just like my mother’s). Why just 1 res - the city is full of wonders and great eats, why stay in line or feel the pressure to eat THE BEST?
If you ask nicely, I will send you my STACKED Google Maps list from our 5+ trips over the year, designed for you to discover cute places and nice cafes amd bakeries as you walk along the Seine and get lost in neighborhoods.

We had so much fun this week baking for you, despite the crazy humidity. 2 bake days, 2 small events, a wedding cake and a few birthday cakes later, I’m forever grateful that I get to play with food, with the best team no less. Though my legs really are feeling the toll today.
WE ARE TAKING A LONG BAKE AND WILL RETURN TO OUR NORMAL SCHEDULE THE WEEK OF JULY 20!
I will be making pastries and desserts on Sunday, July 19 at Osteria Morini DC with pal nevinmartell and chef Matthew Adler to showcase wild, foraged ingredients. Reservation for the brunch event is linked in my bio!
Stay safe, enjoy the summer, be cool, and I’ll bake for you again in July!

My favorite fun fact is that I went to high school in Sedona, Arizona. When I was 14, determined to go to high school abroad (maybe strongly influenced by High School Musical), I sat for the Singapore Government High School Scholarship exam, applied to boarding schools in the UK and US, and landed myself at Verde Valley School. It was a shock for a girl growing up in a busy city of a cool 3M people to wake up everyday to the red rocks, but I loved every single minute of it.
We stayed in my old (possibly haunted) dorm room, went down to the Creek for a swim, climbed Cathedral Rocks early morning and felt the energy vortex, and did so many things I wasn’t allowed to do on campus back then (drinking on the Dining Hall rooftop would have gotten me so many hours of cleaning up horse manure).
It was also the perfect time to get out of DC and go introduce my spouse to a few people that basically “adopted” me when I was just an angsty teenager, who showed me so much interest, love, and patience. Going back and seeing all the Field Trips and Projects and Classes that the students here get to take gives me hope. I don’t have any Sedona recs for you - lucky for me Dining Hall food was delish all week, but if you ever need to unplug from it all and find a bit of hope, going back to where you were happiest works really well.
