Last month, The SABIT Program held its Municipal Water Management program for 16 professionals from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

During the two-weeklong program, the delegation met with various U.S. companies, municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities, and industry associations. The delegation met with companies in Washington, DC, Austin, Texas and their surrounding areas. The delegation also attended WEFTEC in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The delegation had site visits to several water filtration and wastewater treatment plants in order to learn about the treatment processes we have in common, as well as learn about innovative technologies being implemented here in the United States. We were delighted to visit AlexRenew, Baltimore City Department of Public Works' Ashburton Filtration Plant and Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant, Maryland Environmental Service's Freedom District Wastewater Treatment Plant, Austin Water's Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant and Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant, San Antonio Water System's H2Oaks Center, The Upper Occoquan Service Authority's Millard H. Robbins, Jr. Regional Water Reclamation Plant, and WSSC Water's Potomac Plant Water Filtration Facility.

Promoting U.S. exports is the crux of our work, so we loved connecting our delegates with representatives from Xylem, Headworks International Inc., Pentair, Badger Meter, and Sensus.

Associations perform an essential role in the industry by advocating for their members’ interests, so we were glad that representatives from Water Environment Federation (WEF), Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, and National Association of Clean Water Agencies were able to meet with us.

Our training programs would not be complete without hearing from U.S. regulatory agencies, and a meeting with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans provided our delegates with information about regulatory standards for wastewater treatment facilities and Green Infrastructure projects, respectively.

The very first Clean Energy Program for Kosovo was a success! A group of 17 renewable energy specialists 💡 representing Kosovo’s public and private sectors participated in the program from September 7 – 21, 2024.

Beginning their travels in Anaheim, California, the delegation attended the RE + Trade Show from September 9 – 11 and finished off the week meeting with organizations such as Palm Springs City Hall, Palm Springs Windmill Tours, and the Smart Grid Energy Research Center at the University of California, Los Angeles. The delegation took the weekend to travel to Des Moines, Iowa, where they engaged with leading U.S. clean energy companies, including MidAmerican Energy Company, EcoEngineers, and Shive-Hattery. The group also witnessed American public-private partnerships at work as they toured an agrivoltaics project site produced in collaboration with Alliant Energy and Iowa State University.

The delegation’s final days in the United States were spent in Washington, D.C., where they met with FERC and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories. In addition to meeting with U.S. companies, the delegates were also greeted by representatives of their own country through receptions both at the Consulate of the Republic of Kosovo in Des Moines, Iowa and at the Embassy of Kosovo on their last day in Washington, D.C. Truly, it was an incredible end to a productive program!
