Attention! Next week the DAR Headquarters, including the DAR Library, will be closed to the public from Monday May 25th through Friday May 29th due to a private event. We will reopen to the public at 9 am on Saturday, May 30th. This means the building will be closed to the public for the entire week of Memorial Day. We apologize for any inconvenience.
As a reminder, next week the DAR is hosting the annual Genealogical Research Institute here in DC. The Library will be open our regular hours to public visitors, but the space may be busier than usual.

The DAR Library is on the move!
As a reminder, the DAR will be undertaking a major restoration of the DAR’s historic Library beginning in July 2026. The entire contents of the library - including all the books - will be moved to off-site storage for the duration of the project, which is expected to last at least 12 months. The Seimes Technology Center will remain open to onsite researchers and there will be no interruption of access to online record copies and supplementals while the renovation is ongoing, but there will be no access to the book collections during that time by anyone, including staff.
We understand that this will be a significant disruption for our patrons. If you had planned to do research during the restoration period, we encourage you to contact [email protected] as soon as possible to discuss how to use our search or photocopy services to assist your research before the work begins in July of 2026.
For updates, please follow us on Facebook at where we will be posting reminders, helpful tips, and progress reports on the renovation project:
