--About the Artist--
John Morrell (1951-2025) was known as a painter of places, ranging between majestic landscapes chronicling his familiar places and renderings of more intimate corners of the world he observed. He attributes some of his inspiration from his connection to Upstate New York and the Hudson River Valley, but also from travel to Maine, England and France, as well as from the Washington DC region in particular the Georgetown neighborhood. His mastery of technique in an array of historical as well as newer media allowed him to conjure a strong sense of space, light, and personal experience. His later work explored glimpses between buildings, behind hedges, or over a fence or garden gate., He once remarked “I am often drawn to what I cannot see.”

Last week for The New Rainbow Color School, three fantastic artists, all with their own unique spin on their craft. From towering sculptures, to tantalizing textures, to clever ways to re-use the unwanted, these artists truly are powerhouses within their fields.
