On Friday, October 20th, the Institute for Development Impact (I4DI) had the pleasure of hosting a welcome reception in honor of the newly appointed Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United States, His Excellency Sven Alkalaj. During the reception, strong messages of support were extended to the Embassy and the Ambassador personally, along with the expression of desire and readiness for collaboration on projects and activities of interest to the Embassy, the BiH diaspora, and for strengthening strategic relations and bridges between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With a warm greeting to the attendees and gratitude to the organizers, Ambassador Alkalaj shared several important messages in his address. First, unlike the past few years, the Embassy of BiH in Washington is once again opening its doors wide to its citizens, who should feel that this is their home and that they are always welcome. Second, the work of the Embassy with the diaspora across the US will be reactivated. Not only will the Embassy no longer be inaccessible, but it will actively reach out to our diaspora, and the representatives of the Embassy are already planning visits to our communities across the US. Third, the ambassador invited representatives of NGOs active in the US to define projects of importance for BiH together with the Embassy, and to work jointly on their implementation through working groups that need to be formed for this purpose. Fourth, in collaboration with the Embassy, it is essential to outline the approach towards American officials and institutions with the objective of fostering mutual interests between BiH and the US. In conclusion, the ambassador underscored another pivotal interest of BiH, which is to reinvigorate the activities of the Club for BiH in the US Congress (The Bosnian Caucus). This endeavor aims at bolstering and enhancing relations between BiH and the US, recognizing the latter as a significant ally and a genuine friend of our nation.
Besides Ambassador Alkalaj, the attendees were addressed by Dr. Azra Kačapor - Nurkić, co-founder and executive director of I4DI, Ms. Dženita Saračević, president of BHeart, Mr. Benjamin Tikvina, president of the IMBiH - Inclusive Movement for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Mr. Adnan Hadrovic, senior advisor for international relations, diplomacy, and global security at I4DI.

The reception is yet another in a series of activities that I4DI undertakes in the segment of strengthening the role of the BiH diaspora in reinforcing ties and building new bridges between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
