This whole “post yourself in 2016” trend made me realize something — it’s been ten years since I started producing under the name Little Face.
I didn’t have a real name for it yet. And if I’m being honest… I wasn’t entirely sure what I was doing was even legal.
Little Face is just a direct translation of my middle name, Carita. It felt personal. Slightly anonymous. Safe enough to try.
I was living in Silver Lake, learning how to grow and harvest flower with my hippie botanist roommate, juggling jobs as a casting director, barista, and farmer. Cannabis by day. Event dreams by night. Trimming w**d, casting commercials, then going home to build decks, pitch venues, and obsess over ideas no one asked for (yet).
I went to a lot of w**d parties that were… not it. And I kept thinking, if I were doing this, it would feel different. So I started pitching.
Rejection after rejection.
Too weird. Too risky.
How many followers do you have?
No w**d allowed.
Then said yes.
Three weeks to pull off my first real show. During Cannabis Cup weekend. No one was answering emails, so I drove to San Bernardino and pitched brands booth-to-booth like a woman with nothing to lose. Six sponsors. A stacked comedy lineup. No backup plan.
The night of the show, I spiraled.
“What if no one comes?”
“Am I breaking the law?”
“Why am I like this?”
By 8pm, we were sold out. The room was packed. Laughter everywhere. Someone chased me down for my card and later wrote about my work. I didn’t know it then, but that night changed everything.
The rest of 2016 was self-funded and scrappy — 4/20 gatherings, figure drawing, Pride events turned safe spaces, pizza-and-video-game chaos, horror comedy, farming flower, building pre-roll operations, long solo drives filled with bigger ideas. Trump got elected. Community felt urgent. So I kept building rooms for it.
That year taught me how to trust my instincts before there was proof. Little Face started as a placeholder name. Now it’s been ten years.
If you’ve been watching since ‘16, thank you! If you’re just now tuning in, welcome! I’m grateful to have taken the leap, and excited to keep building in D.C… ❤️🐴
