Without food allergy education, many don't realize that teasing and bullying with an allergen can have serious consequences. Signs of potential bullying include school anxiety, increased reactions at school, and other behavioral and emotional changes (sadness, outbursts, excessive worry). Address bullying concerns with the school first (if that's where it's occurring) and engage a mental health professional if it results in emotional distress.

When you care for a child with food allergies, it's important to recognize the symptoms of a reaction as THEY would describe them.

Keeping your epinephrine with you will give you peace of mind knowing you are prepared to respond to a reaction. And, remember: use epinephrine when more than one body system is affected or when a symptom is severe - trouble breathing, hives all over the body, blue skin tone, etc.

Epi First, Epi Fast.

Share accurate information to combat misconceptions about food allergies! Food allergy is a diagnosed condition that can affect the skin, lungs, heart, digestive system (mouth, throat, stomach), and brain. Reactions are unpredictable and can range from mild, severe, to life-threatening. When someone has a food allergy, we ALL need to take it seriously.
