We're celebrating the only way we know how — by recommitting to the everyday work of building a government worthy of the people it serves.

The Declaration of Independence listed 27 specific abuses of power. Read them today and the parallels are hard to miss:

Then, the military was turned on civilians. Now, troops are deployed in American cities.
Then, the institutions of accountability were obstructed. Now, federal watchdogs are being fired.

None of this began with one administration — power has been tilting toward the executive under both parties for decades. What's different now is the pace and the scale.

The good news: every one of these has a fix already on the table.
