Juneteenth and July 4th arrive within weeks of each other, close enough to force a choice about what kind of freedom story we intend to tell, and who we intend to tell it for.

One date is framed as a national origin. The other is a reckoning that exposes the gap between what this country declared and what it was willing to enforce.

in 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Bostock v. Clayton County that federal workplace protections against s*x discrimination apply to LGBTQ+ employees.

The decision affirmed that workers cannot be fired simply for being gay or transgender under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The ruling marked a major victory for workplace equality and civil rights protections while also underscoring the continued need to defend LGBTQ+ rights across the country.
