ORGANIZING COMMUNITY POWER!

Photos from Empower DC's post 06/01/2026

DC must raise revenue to find critical, lifesaving programs (like Emergency Rental Assistance, vouchers, and mold inspections) in next year's budget. A 3% tax on wealthy residents' passive income (like assets & capital gains) will go a long way towards meeting this gap!

While many Councilmembers are telling DC residents to make hard choices, this is the choice that needs to be made. The needs of most DC residents over the increasing wealth of a few. DC can - and must- do this.

Thank you to for leading!

Yesterday we joined in a ribbon cutting of the new Bench Monitors. These sensors are able to collect air quality data, like fine particulate matter, ozone and Black Carbon. This project was an outcome of DOEE’s Air Quality Advisory Board that Empower DC helped coordinate and convene in 2024-2025.

You can find these park bench monitors at the Petworth Recreation Center (Ward 4), Deanwood Recreation Center (Ward 7), Crummell School (Ward 5), the Barry Farm Recreation Center (Ward 8) and at the Zoo (Ward 3).

DC Council: Fund Access to Justice & Protect Tenants!

The Access to Justice Initiative is the DC's largest public investment in legal services for low- and moderate-income residents. It's facing an 86% cut! This puts tens of thousands of D.C. residents at risk of getting no legal help. Please join us in urging the D.C. Council to make the restoration of Access to Justice Initiative funding a top FY27 budget priority.
