2026 has (so far) been the driest year for the DC region since 2002. ☀️

As of last week, DC is officially under a drought watch due to above-average temperatures and unusually dry conditions—but what does this mean for watering our trees?

With no significant rain in sight, young trees planted in the last three years need up to 25 gallons of water (or 1.5” of rainfall) a week to help them stay happy, healthy, and hydrated. And watering doesn’t have to be wasteful – by watering carefully and intentionally, you can properly care for your trees while being responsible during a drought.

Visit caseytrees.org/water for more tips. 💧

Help us find the next great spot for trees! 📍

We’re looking for spaces across DC that can use more shade, greenery, and life. 🌱

In partnership with DC's Department of Energy & Environment, Casey Trees plants trees for FREE on private property across the District, including schools, houses of worship, or neighborhood blocks that could use more shade.

Each tree added to our urban canopy helps make DC a cooler, healthier, and more beautiful place to live. Know a spot? Visit caseytrees.org/nominate to nominate a space for trees. 🌳
