When I first made this installation I didn’t think it was possible to be more sickened, heartbroken or terrified by school shootings. Then I became a mother.

I think about this every day while I drive my daughter to school. Today I was crying and shaking the whole way. I didn’t grow up in this country, but it is my home now, and while before I used to wonder if I would ever be impacted by a mass shooting, now I wonder when and how.

As I add this new piece to the installation a few years after I first exhibited it, I find myself wondering why nothing -other than teaching children to hide- has changed. I don’t understand the reasoning of a country that does absolutely nothing to address the murder of its children in their classrooms.

How many more children will be murdered before we change gun laws?
