Former Senior U.S. Education Department Officials, Employees’ Union, All4Ed Request Inspector General to Investigate Transfer of Programs to Labor Department | All4Ed 07/15/2026

This morning, POLITICO's Morning Education covered All4Ed’s and AFGE Local 252’s request for an Inspector General review of the transfer of OCTAE to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Amy Loyd, CEO of All4Ed and former assistant secretary for the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education, said in All4Ed’s statement that the agreement “flies squarely in the face of bipartisan congressional direction that no authority exists for the Department to transfer its fundamental responsibilities to other federal agencies.”

“Lawmakers have been explicit,” she added. “This administration has simply chosen to ignore them."

The effort to create less bureaucracy is actually creating more.

Recently, the House Education and Workforce Committee released ten sweeping bills in an effort to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

Without ever holding a single up or down vote on whether or not that's even what our nation wants or needs.

“A designed decision to avoid the scrutiny of what one sweeping bill would get—these bills call themselves less bureaucracy. What they are actually doing is walking back on our nation's foundational commitment to public education for all of us. And they would do real harm to every state, every community, every school, every student in our country.”
