Innovation starts with people.

It takes engineers, researchers, technicians, and railroaders to turn new ideas into real-world solutions. And it takes Rail Champions help ensure the policies and investments are in place so innovation can continue.

The future of freight rail isn't powered by technology alone—it's powered by people.

Innovation isn't always flashy. Sometimes it's thousands of small improvements that add up to a big impact.

Today's freight railroads are using AI, predictive analytics, smarter locomotives, and real-time network management to move freight more efficiently than ever.

The results speak for themselves:
🚆 Freight rail can move one ton of freight more than 470 miles on a single gallon of fuel.
🌎 Rail accounts for about 40% of U.S. long-distance freight while producing just 2% of transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions.
🚛 A single freight train can take several hundred trucks off the highway, reducing congestion and lowering emissions.

Innovation is helping freight rail deliver more while using less—and that's good for businesses, communities, and the environment.
