Thank you to GoRail for inviting our Executive Director, Kris Hoellen, to participate in their webinar "From Steam to Sensors" offered yesterday as part of the Association of American Railroads’ Innovation Week! She presented on this history of rail innovation alongside rail experts such as Josh Raglin (Norfolk Southern), Guchan Ozbilgin (Parallel Systems), and Dominika Dubinsky (CPKC Railway).

Innovation isn't always flashy. Sometimes it's thousands of small improvements that add up to a big impact.

Today's freight railroads are using AI, predictive analytics, smarter locomotives, and real-time network management to move freight more efficiently than ever.

The results speak for themselves:
🚆 Freight rail can move one ton of freight more than 470 miles on a single gallon of fuel.
🌎 Rail accounts for about 40% of U.S. long-distance freight while producing just 2% of transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions.
🚛 A single freight train can take several hundred trucks off the highway, reducing congestion and lowering emissions.

Innovation is helping freight rail deliver more while using less—and that's good for businesses, communities, and the environment.
