Richard Tapia, pioneering mathematician and advocate for diversity, passes away at 88 05/26/2026

The Computing Research Association is saddened to learn of the passing of Richard A. Tapia. Winner of the inaugural CRA A. Nico Habermann Award, Tapia was a renowned mathematician and served as a distinguished professor at Rice University. Much of his work focused on empowering underrepresented students and educators in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
