🧯 About Us
South Strabane Department of Fire & Emergency Services is an all-hazards, combination department in Washington County, PA. The Department is Municipally driven and comprised of volunteer firefighters and career firefighters (represented by South Strabane Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 5006). We serve a diverse community (residential, retail, industrial, rural) with a model built on collaboration between career and volunteer firefighters — and we intend to keep it that way.

- We respond to over 1,400 calls annually, and growing.
- Minimum staffing is 2 FFs 24/7 — we aim for 3-person crews 75%+ of the time, with 4+ M-F Daylight.
- New Rescue/Pumper (2024) and 107’ Aerial (Fall 2025).
- Strong community support.
- Current model is a result of a foundation built by the merger of two independent volunteer departments in 2005 — unity and collaboration are in our DNA.

What We’re Looking For:
We don’t need warm bodies. We need people who are:

✅ Familiar with volunteer/combination fire systems
✅ Team-oriented and ego-free
✅ Willing to work with and for their fellow firefighters and their community

You don’t need career experience — but you must have experience in a combination or volunteer setting.

📌 Position Details

Expected Hiring:
2+ Part-Time Firefighters
2 Full-Time Firefighters
(preference may be given to current PT FFs, but all on the hiring list are eligible)

2025 Wages (per new contract):

$22.86/hour – Part-Time
$30.49/hour – Full-Time (top rate after 3 years)

ALS Incentives (hourly):
AEMT: $.50 (2025), $.75 (2026–27)
Paramedic: $.75 (2025), $1.00 (2026–27)

Schedule:
Part-Time: 8s, 12s, 24s (minimum 8 hrs/week)
**Weekend availability required

Full-Time: 24-on / 48-off w/ Kelly Day

Full-Time Benefits: Excellent health plan, Defined Benefit Pension, Expanded 25-mile residency for FT hires

🛑 Minimum Qualifications (at time of hire):
-21 years old
-ProBoard Firefighter I
-EMT-B (applicants without may apply, but not guaranteed to test)
-PA CDL-B w/ Air Brake & Tanker endorsements (or ability to obtain in 6 months)
