Summer has officially taken over, and we're here for it! β˜€οΈπŸ΄

Winter fluff? Gone.

Shiny coats? Check.

Random zoomies? Absolutely.

Daily dirt baths? Mandatory.

Standing in the water trough five minutes after it was cleaned? Also mandatory. πŸ˜…

Everyone is looking fantastic and soaking up summer in their own unique way. Around here, being unapologetically yourself is highly encouraged... even if "yourself" is a horse who insists on rolling in the only muddy spot in the pasture after a bath.

We wouldn't have it any other way. πŸ’š

Before anyone starts wondering why the rescue smells like a fresh mountain breeze... here's the secret: Irish Spring! 🧼🫏

Not every horse or donkey is thrilled about being sprayed with fly spray or standing still for fly swat. For those who would rather skip the spa treatment, we give them a good scrub with Irish Spring soap instead!

The strong scent can help discourage flies, ticks, and mosquitoes from hanging around until the next good rain washes it away. While it's not a replacement for traditional fly control, it's a handy trick that works well for some of our more opinionated residents.

Willow and Fiona are especially prone to fly bites on their legs thanks to their leisurely lifestyle (they're professionals at standing around looking adorable). Between their awesome new fly boots and regular washes to keep their legs clean, they're much more comfortable this summer.

Sometimes the simplest tricks are the best ones... and if the barn smells extra fresh, now you know why! 🧼🐴πŸͺ°

Murphy would like to file a formal complaint against summer. β˜€οΈπŸ˜‚

This magnificent unit was absolutely not built for heat. On these extra-hot days, he goes from neighborhood supervisor and professional busybody to a grumpy old man who wants everyone to get off his lawn...

At nearly 2,500 pounds, he's basically wearing a king-sized weighted blanket 24/7. We don't blame him one bit! So he's getting plenty of shade, fresh water, and every chance to stay cool while he patiently waits for Mother Nature to remember that fall exists.

Until then, Murphy's official plans are:
🌳 Stand in the shade.
πŸ’¨ Judge the weather.
πŸ˜’ Judge everyone else.
πŸ₯• Accept snacks as compensation for his suffering.
