Wondering what is a Ping Sweep?

A ping sweep is a basic network scanning technique used to identify if a particular or several hosts are alive in the networks associated with their IP addresses.

A ping sweep consists of Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) ECHO requests sent to multiple hosts. An ICMP ECHO reply will then be returned as a response if a given address is live.

Ping sweeps are more complex than single pings but are also slower and may require more advanced software to maximize their efficiency and capability.
