Waukee Fire Department

Before Waukee Community School District started summer break, Waukee Fire Department had the opportunity to visit with more than 1,400 3rd–5th grade students to talk about fire safety. We discussed the importance of having a home fire escape plan with a plan A B and C, choosing a family meeting place, and practicing Close Before You Doze by sleeping with their bedroom door closed.

Fire safety education is important at every age, and we always enjoy connecting with students and helping them build habits that can keep them safe.

Star sprinkles on pancakes, a helicopter landing in the driveway and climbing in fire trucks. It’s safe to say this year’s breakfast was a huge hit.

We couldn’t have done it without support, so shout out to Hy-Vee, The Maschhoffs and 1-800-BOARDUP for their generous donations. Special thanks to MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center for landing the Air Med helicopter and giving tours. It was definitely a crowd favorite! We’d also like to thank the Urbandale Lions Club, JP Party Rentals and Spurgeon Manor for all their help in making the event a success.
