I had the pleasure of capturing these two juvenile Barred Owls the other day. This was my first time really seeing owls in the wild. These two were quite affectionate and playful with each other… and tolerated my presence quite well. After getting home and doing some research on Barred Owls, I was shocked to find several articles about U.S. wildlife officials that are embracing a contentious plan to deploy trained shooters into dense West Coast forests to kill almost a half-million barred owls that are crowding out the endangered Spotted Owl… Due to the close resemblance between the two owls, this seems like a train wreck in the making.

I caught a quick glimpse of this scene while driving down to Watkins Glen the other day. One thing I have learned over the years is if something catches your eye at 55mph, it is worth turning around and finding a safe place to park. Wherever you are heading can usually wait another 10 minutes. Take the time to take in the moment.

I came across this Blue Heron on my walk around this morning. Looks like he was enjoying the morning Sun after all that rain we had last night!

I caught this shot on the way home the other day. I had tried getting shots of this barn in the past, but everything came together nicely this time around.

I was out at Eastman Lake again the other morning when I caught a quick glimpse of this Mama Mallard and her two little ones. I still can’t believe how well they posed for me, and the absolutely beautiful light. As soon as I got my shot, they were hopping in the water and swimming off.
