July is National Bison Month.
For many Indigenous Nations, bison are far more than wildlife. They represent culture, identity, spirituality, and a way of life that sustained communities for generations. The deliberate destruction of bison herds was also an attack on Indigenous peoples, their livelihoods, and their traditions.
Today, Tribal Nations across North America continue the important work of restoring bison to their ancestral lands, strengthening ecosystems while helping revitalize culture, language, and community.
To learn more, we recommend the documentary Bring Them Home (Aiskótáhkapiyaaya), which follows the Blackfeet Nation's efforts to return wild bison to their homelands and reclaim an important part of their cultural heritage.

As the Fourth of July weekend approaches, we recognize this is a time of reflection for many. At IRRF, we continue our focus on caring for the land, supporting community, and building relationships rooted in responsibility.
Please have a safe and restful weekend.

Summer is fully here, and the land is reflecting that change with longer days, warm air, and a season that invites us to slow down and pay attention.
These seasonal shifts remind us of the importance of relationship: to place, to each other, and to the natural world around us.

As we near the halfway point of 2026, we're taking a moment to reflect with gratitude.
We're thankful for the community members who support and believe in this work, the volunteers and partners who help make it possible, the success of this year's Rising Roots Camp, and the opportunity to welcome new Board Members.
Thank you for being part of this journey. We look forward to continuing to learn, grow, and build community together in the months ahead.
